Spend the day learning to paint portraits in Watercolour with award-winning watercolour artist Mark Entwisle. After a brief introduction Mark will do a short watercolour portrait demo, talking about the importance of really looking and painting what you see, being aware of the underlying structure of the skull, highlights and shadows, painting people who really interest you. He will be demonstrating how to mix and apply flesh tones using the three primary colours initially, the importance of complimentary colours and tonal values.

All levels welcome.

Mark Entwisle studied printmaking at Cambridge College of Art and Technology, and then completed a degree in illustration at Brighton. He went on to work as an illustrator for 15 years, with clients including Penguin, Random House and the National Theatre. During this time he began to exhibit and has been the recipient of many prestigious awards and prizes, such as the BP Portrait Award, the RA Summer Show, The Discerning Eye and the Lynn Painters-Stainers Prize.

‘In 1999 I was ecstatic to have a portrait accepted for the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, I had another accepted the following year and received a commendation in 2002. This led to my first portrait commission and marked the start of my career as a portrait painter’.  He is immensely proud to have been recognised with a number of respected art prizes, winning the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in 2020.
Mark also teaches part-time at the National Portrait Gallery.

He will also be leading a Interiors in Watercolour workshop the day after at Stanton Guildhouse (13th June), in case you want to attend both.
