The festival was started in 2010 and aims to raise awareness of the community’s rich links with the arts, whilst broadening the appeal of Broadway locally, nationally and internationally, as a destination for artistic endeavour and education. The festival is creating a sustainable environment within which to inspire, educate, encourage and support Broadway as an internationally recognised centre for the arts.

Broadway Arts Festival is a registered charity and has grown substantially over the last 7 years, with Arts lovers travelling from across the UK and abroad to attend. The main 10 day festival comprises of approximately 80 events every other year in June, plus approximately 25 events spread throughout each interim year.

Once the costs of running the festival and events have been covered, remaining income funds our bursary programme supporting local university students pursuing careers in the Arts and our schools outreach programme supporting 6 local primary and 3 secondary schools with funded arts activities.

Role & Responsibilities of the Trustee Board

The trustee board holds ultimate legal responsibility for governance, strategic direction, and financial solvency, ensuring the organisation delivers on its charitable aims and objectives for public benefit. Trustees set the long-term strategy, oversee risk management, ensure compliance with laws, and hold senior management accountable for operational delivery.

  • Strategic Direction & Governance: Setting the mission, vision, and long-term goals for the arts organisation, ensuring it adheres to its charitable objectives and governing documents.
  • Financial Oversight: Ensuring financial stability, maintaining solvency, and ensuring charity assets are managed responsibly and used exclusively for charitable purposes.
  • Compliance and Legal Obligation: Ensuring compliance with charity law and regulations.
  • Accountability: Holding the Festival Director accountable for performance and operations.
  • Advocacy & Support: Championing the arts charity externally, helping with fundraising, Ambassador development, and connecting with the arts community.
  • Safeguarding & Reputation: Protecting the charity’s reputation, values, and ensuring a healthy, inclusive culture.

Who are we looking for?

We are a strong board with diverse professional skills and experience.

We are looking for two new trustees with backgrounds in the Arts, Culture and Philanthropy.

Our ideal candidates will have credibility, influence and vision in one or more of the following sectors:-

  • Arts, Culture or Creative Industries, TV Broadcasting 
  • Cultural Institutions, Foundations or Philanthropy
  • The Heritage Sector 

Required knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Strong networks across the Arts and Cultural sectors or Philanthropy
  • A track record in partnership building and advocacy 
  • Confident in strategic thinking and cultural, institutional development 
  • Charity sector experience  

Time Commitment:

  • Attending quarterly board meetings in Broadway, each approximately 2 hours in duration.
  • Attending ad hoc meetings in between where required
  • Attending festival events
