Drawing Trees – Subtractive Drawing Workshop with Jessie Carr
Fri June 6, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm BST
Explore the techniques of subtractive drawing to capture the essence and structure of trees with artist, and experienced tutor, Jessie Carr.
What is subtractive drawing?
Instead of the traditional drawing practise, Graphite is added directly to the paper with your hand or cloth, drawing into the structure for depth, creating highlights by removing material, revealing the light beneath.
This technique allows for a rich exploration of contrast, texture and depth, bringing trees to life in a dynamic way.
Perfect for all levels this workshop is a chance to explore something unique with graphite!
Jessie Carr is a professional artist and art tutor with over 20 years of experience in the creative industries. After earning a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Central St. Martins in London, Jessie worked as a scenic artist in film, TV, and photography, which gave her extensive experience across a variety of styles and mediums. This journey eventually led Jessie to teaching, and she established her own independent art classes in the Cotswolds, a role I love. Throughout her career, drawing has remained at the core of her own practice. Jessie also participates in art events and group shows, including Cheltenham Open Studios, and she is a regular finalist and selling artist at the annual Broadway Arts Competition Exhibition.
