
Freelance Part Time Bookkeeper – Person Specification
Essential (Must-Have)
Education/Training:
- O Level or GCSE Maths and English (GCSE or O Level Grade C/7+)
- Proficient and skilled using Sage Accounting software, Excel, Word, email and payroll software.
Experience:
- 5+ Years working for a charity or several busy small businesses in a financial management position
- Cash handling
- Managing payroll
- Submitting Gift Aid reports
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Bookkeeping Fundamentals: Data entry, invoice processing, bank reconciliation, cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable.
- Charity Specifics: Gift Aid processing & charity accounts compliance.
- Detail-Oriented & Accurate: Meticulous record-keeping and error-checking.
- Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal skills for reporting to trustees, staff and external contacts.
- Organised & Methodical: Meets deadlines with good time management. Ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.
- Proactive & Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Problem-Solver: Analytical approach to financial challenges and good business acumen.
- High Integrity: Handles sensitive financial information confidentially.
- Team Player: Collaborates well with non-finance colleagues and volunteers.
- Qualities/Attributes: Flexibility when managing peaks and troughs of workload, polite, calm, friendly, enthusiastic, positive attitude and interest in the Arts (music, theatre, etc).
Desirable (Nice-to-Have)
- Education/Training: Level 2 or 3 AAT desirable. A Level Maths, or further accounting qualifications.
- Experience in a customer-facing environment
- Experience working with volunteers
