SUMMARY:A Tour of 2 Private Broadway Gardens with Marion Mako
DESCRIPTION:Broadway’s gardens have been the backdrop for artists\, writers\, actors and musicians for over a century. \nOn this walking tour of two famous private gardens with Marion Mako\, we shall hear about some of the stories behind those who created\, inhabited and visited them\, all looking their finest. \nMarion is a garden historian\, planting designer\, garden tour leader and lecturer at The London College of Garden Design. \nThis tour includes Court Farm & The Hill… neighbouring prestigious properties on the Upper High Street in Broadway: \n\nCourt Farm: With many historic and artistic associations this garden may well have influenced the design of nearby Hidcote. Successive generations have all added their horticultural mark to this large garden with its huge herbaceous border and newly planted sundial bed.\nThe Hill: A hillside garden with topiary\, mature trees and summerhouses\, and fabulous views to Bredon Hill and the Malverns.\n\nMarion’s design work focuses on planting\, taking inspiration from various historical styles\, a subject she also lectures on. As part of the series of The Historic Gardens of England\, she co-authored two books about the counties of Cheshire and Somerset. She has written books on the history of the late Duke of Westminster’s gardens at Eaton Hall and University of Bristol’s gardens\, as well as contributing to the Gardening website Gardenista. In addition Marion is researching the gardens of two large private estates\, creating legacy books for their owners\, as well as leading a wide variety of bespoke garden tours. She is also a Trustee for the Painswick Rococo Garden in Gloucestershire. \nwww.makogardens.co.uk \nNote there is an identical tour in the morning from 10am-12 noon \nTickets £25   (Limited to 35 places) \n\nTickets will be going on sale to the public at 10am on Friday 26th January 2024\, and 1 week earlier for festival benefactors.\nDo consider becoming a Benefactor (for as little as £50) to secure priority booking for all our 2024 events. Benefactor applications are now open.\n  \n\nPlease note: Due to the intense interest in this event (and to make it fair for all) we are limiting the number of tickets any person can buy to 2. This applies to benefactors of the festival and members of the general public. If you buy more than 2 they will be refunded and put back up for sale. \nView photos from previous garden tours \n  \n \nImage credit © Britt Willoughby Dyer

SUMMARY:Intro to Lino Block Printing - Linen Cushion Workshop with Albert Harvey
DESCRIPTION:On this day course you will work with Albert Harvey\, a print maker and textile designer from Oxfordshire\, to firstly design your very own bespoke Lino print block\, carve it and then use it to print your linen cushion fabric. Albert will then take away the resulting fabric to make it into an expertly finished and piped cushion which will be then posted to you. \n\nThe day will start with a quick introduction to lino print and block print.\nYou will then go on to draw your own bespoke design\, please bring inspiration with you! Albert will also bring some ideas and items to inspire and help you on your way.\nAlbert will then demonstrate how to carve your Lino\, before you go ahead yourselves. Plenty of opportunity for 1:1 tuition.\nThe next step will be to mix your bespoke colour using pigments and mixing them into a binder.\nThen we move onto the best part\, printing your fabric! The fabrics will be taken away by Albert who will expertly finish and pipe the cushions before posting back to you.\nYou will then have your very own cushion and your own bespoke Lino block that you can use (along with the learning from the workshop) to create further pieces in the same design.\n\n\n\nMaterials: \nEverything you need will be supplied\, but please remember to bring inspiration for your own design. An image\, foliage or a plant. Any style is welcome whether abstract\, geometric flora or fauna! \nAlbert Harvey is a printmaker and textile designer who studied at the Bath School or Art and Design where he developed a passion for the ancient art of block printing. A restrained colour palette combined with his naturalistic designs\, printed on 100% natural linen give Albert Harvey’s textiles a timeless\, contemporary feel. \nTickets: \n£100 per person (up to 13 places) \n\n\n\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Robin Hood by Illyria - Family Outdoor Theatre on the Village Green
DESCRIPTION:From the earliest ballads of Robin Hood\, some pre-dating Chaucer\, Illyria has created a fast-moving\, fun-packed family show. \nWhile good King Richard is away fighting the crusades\, his friend Robert Fitzooth\, under the assumed name of Robin Hood\, resolves to relieve corrupt landowners of their wealth\, to ruin the inept Sheriff of Nottingham and to do all he can to prevent the power-mad Prince John from seizing the throne. \nFeaturing tales of camaraderie\, good against evil\, swashbuckling action and riotous comedy\, this remains one of Illyria’s most popular ever titles. You’ll definitely laugh\, you’ll probably cry – and if you’re not cheering at the archery competition involving the entire audience then you must be dead. We also guarantee you will learn new uses for the phrase “Don’t Do This At Home”. \nIllyria are a new theatre company to Broadway Arts Festival who we are excited to welcome as part of our family programme of events. \n“Top notch outdoor theatre” The Telegraph \nRunning time (approx): 1hr 50mins (inc 20 minute interval) \nSuitable for ages 5+ (younger children also welcome!) \nThis performance will be taking place outside on the village green in the centre of Broadway. Bring camping chairs or a blanket to sit on. \nThe performance will go ahead unless weather conditions are extreme (e.g. high winds\, lightning or temperatures in excess of 36oC). \nThere will be ice cream from Gorsehill Abbey and cold drinks on sale. \nTickets: \n£50 Family (2 adults & 2 under 16s) \n£18 Adults \n£12 Under 16s \nUnder 2s Free \nKindly sponsored by Broadway Parish Council\n  \nABOUT ILLYRIA: \nIllyria was created in 1991\, and ever since has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the UK\, and in the Netherlands\, Germany\, Switzerland\, France\, the United States and Canada. \nIllyria has also won 4 international “Best Performance” awards and attracted numerous “5-star” and “Critics’ Choice” reviews for the lively clarity of its approach to Shakespeare’s plays\, the high quality of its shows for families and the refreshing originality of its English classics adaptations and Gilbert & Sullivan performances. \nIllyria’s mission is simply stated: to create a varied programme of outstandingly enjoyable theatre and to make it available for everyone to see. \n \n
