SUMMARY:2 Day Plein Air Workshop with Maria Rose ROI in Stanton
DESCRIPTION:Paint en plein air with Maria Rose\, member of the Royal Institute of Oil painters. Maria will introduce the fundamentals of outdoor ‘plein air’ painting in the charming setting of Stanton Guildhouse and Stanton Village. Maria will help you to simplify the process of working outdoors from life\, paint within a shorter space of time\, respond quickly and intuitively to changing subject matter and improve your colour theory to create lively and fresh landscape paintings responding directly to nature. Maria will be providing in-depth demos each morning and afternoon and will provide lots of guidance during your painting sessions. We will aim to paint from different locations each morning and afternoon\, utilising the garden and grounds of Stanton Guildhouse and Stanton village itself\, which is a short walk from the Guildhouse. \nThis course will best suit intermediate painters with some experience in oils in a studio or outdoor setting\, who are looking to gain further experience working outside from life. Maria will be teaching in oils but acrylic painters welcome too. \nMaria Rose ROI is a British oil painter working mainly outdoors to create softly evocative en plein air landscapes capturing mood and light. She understands the quiet beauty of the English landscape and celebrates the subtle shifts through our unique and changing seasons. Maria has exhibited with the South West Academy\, the Royal Institute of Oil painters\, the Chelsea Art Society\, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the New English Art Club and is a member of the British Plein Air Painters. Prizes include the Julian Barrow Award for a Painting (CaS 2017) and Windsor and Newton Young Artist 2nd Prize (ROI 2017). Maria was a contestant on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2018 and was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) in 2023.\nExpect to be outside in the beautiful grounds at Stanton Guildhouse with its far reaching views from the Cotswold escarpment. \nNOTE: There is beautiful onsite self catering accommodation available to book at Stanton Guildhouse – email info@broadwayartsfestival.com to enquire/book. \nTickets £200 (13 Places) \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 15th March and 1 week earlier for benefactors of the festival who qualify for priority booking. \nMaterials List: \n\n\n\nAn outdoor sketching easel or a pochade and tripod\nA palette if not using a pochade with an integral one\, preferably a sturdy wooden one rather than tear off reusable ones\nyour preferred oil paints (Maria will be teaching in oils but acrylics welcome too)\n\n(Maria will be using the following colours but bring whatever you usually use or is your closest substitute: Titanium White\, Michael Harding Warm White\, Naples Yellow\, Cadmium Lemon\, Cadmium Yellow\, Yellow Ochre\, Cadmium Scarlett\, Alizerin Crimson or Rowney Rose (quinacridone magenta)\, Viridian\, Oxide of Chromium\, Ultramarine\, Cobalt Blue\, Raw Umber\, Burnt Sienna). \n\na selection of small panels or canvasses to work on each teaching day\, (aim for 2-3 panels per day and smaller is better for plein air e.g. 18 x 24cm/ 24 x 30cm/ 30 x 40cm) preferably with a coloured ground e.g. grey toned panels \na mixture of hog and synthetic filbert and flat brushes and a watercolour rigger or pointed round if you have one \nlow odour oil thinners and medium if you use it and a dipper pot/ brush washer to contain it\nrags and/or kitchen roll with bag for waste\nsketchpad and preferred sketching tools (pencils\, charcoal etc)\nclothing suitable for extended periods outdoors in all weathers!\nA way to transport wet oil paintings home again! \n\n\n\n\nStanton Village\n \n\nStanton Guildhouse Grounds\n \n  \n
