SUMMARY:2 Day Plein Air Workshop with Maria Rose ROI in Stanton
DESCRIPTION:Paint en plein air with Maria Rose\, member of the Royal Institute of Oil painters. Maria will introduce the fundamentals of outdoor ‘plein air’ painting in the charming setting of Stanton Guildhouse and Stanton Village. Maria will help you to simplify the process of working outdoors from life\, paint within a shorter space of time\, respond quickly and intuitively to changing subject matter and improve your colour theory to create lively and fresh landscape paintings responding directly to nature. Maria will be providing in-depth demos each morning and afternoon and will provide lots of guidance during your painting sessions. We will aim to paint from different locations each morning and afternoon\, utilising the garden and grounds of Stanton Guildhouse and Stanton village itself\, which is a short walk from the Guildhouse. \nThis course will best suit intermediate painters with some experience in oils in a studio or outdoor setting\, who are looking to gain further experience working outside from life. Maria will be teaching in oils but acrylic painters welcome too. \nMaria Rose ROI is a British oil painter working mainly outdoors to create softly evocative en plein air landscapes capturing mood and light. She understands the quiet beauty of the English landscape and celebrates the subtle shifts through our unique and changing seasons. Prizes include the Julian Barrow Award for a Painting (CaS 2017) and Windsor and Newton Young Artist 2nd Prize (ROI 2017). SUMMARY:Getting to Grips with Gouache with David Pilgrim ROI
DESCRIPTION:Spend the day painting in the grounds and art room at Stanton Guildhouse with David Pilgrim ROI. \nLearn how to paint in a more direct and painterly way using gouache paints to achieve fresh and lively results. We will delve into some of the unique properties that this versatile medium has to offer and work both from studio reference along with local subjects based at the wonderful Stanton Guildhouse.  \nThe emphasis will be on simplifying the painting process\, considering key design elements and discarding unnecessary detail in order to create work with more energy and conviction. During this workshop you will produce a number of paint sketches (both tonal and colour) whilst exploring various ways of working with gouache\, building towards the use of broader colour palettes and producing more resolved studies. David will provide demonstrations of his working methods and techniques using gouache whilst also offering lots of helpful advice\, tips and guidance throughout the day. \nAimed at those with some experience of painting (in any medium)\, you’ll be encouraged to paint decisively and with clear intentions\, balancing looseness with control in order to capture the very essence of your subjects with gouache. \nDavid Pilgrim (ROI) is an award-winning professional artist with passion for painting\, predominantly using oils and also gouache. He studied fine art as part of a joint degree course at Aberystwyth University and has developed a successful painting practice over many years\, focusing largely on coastal and landscape subjects. David is an enthusiastic plein air painter\, which also informs his studio work.  Location work can be intensive but immensely rewarding and challenging. The intention is to capture the very essence of the experience of ‘being there’\, in that moment\, and bring this to the viewer in the most direct and impactful way possible. \nNOTE: There is beautiful onsite self catering accommodation available to book at Stanton Guildhouse – email info@broadwayartsfestival.com to enquire/book. \nThe famous Cotswold village of Stanton is a 10 minute drive from Broadway\, and the Guildhouse sits on the hill looking down across the village and across to the Malvern Hills. \nTickets £95 (10 Places) \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 15th March and 1 week earlier for benefactors of the festival who qualify for priority booking. \nMaterials List: \n\nThe recommended set of gouache paints to include: Winsor and Newton and Holbein designers gouache are very good and the essential colours are Permanent white (larger 37ml tube ideal)\, Permanent alizarin crimson\, Cadmium red\, Cadmium lemon\, Cadmium yellow\, French Ultramarine\, Cerulean blue\, Viridian\, Burnt umber\, Burnt sienna\,\nOptional additional colours: Raw sienna\, Yellow Ochre\, Raw umber\, Naples yellow\, Cadmium orange\, Aqua blue\nPaper to paint on.
