SUMMARY:A Tour of 2 Private Gardens: Mill Hay & The Court Broadway
DESCRIPTION:On this walking tour of two prestigious private gardens with Marion Mako\, we shall hear about some of the stories behind those who created\, inhabited and visited them\, all looking their finest in June. \nThis garden tour will visit 2 exclusive gardens on the Snowshill Road on the outskirts of Broadway: \n\n\n\nMill Hay  (starting point)\nThe Court\n\nThe tour will start at Mill Hay\, a Queen Anne country house set in 3 acres of landscaped grounds with a trout lake and ancient rose gardens. The grounds are adjacent to the site of a water mill dating from the 12th century. \nAfter finishing the tour at Mill Hay\, there is a short 5 minute walk to The Court (next to St Eadburgha’s Church\, which is also worth a visit). \nThe beautiful gardens at The Court were designed by landscape designer\, horticulturist and writer\, Dan Pearson\, and are set in 6 acres behind a high stone wall and bounded on one side by a very impressive topiary yew tunnel. The formal gardens include herbaceous borders\, a kitchen garden with raised beds and fruit cages\, a parterre and a large lawn leading down to the brook and the fields and wildlife lake beyond. Other areas are planted with ornamental willows and wild flowers. \nMarion Mako will be leading the tours and is a freelance garden historian and designer who has worked in both the UK and USA. \nHer design work focuses on planting\, taking inspiration from various historical styles\, a subject she also lectures on at The London College of Garden Design. As part of the series of The Historic Gardens of England\, she co-authored two books about the counties of Cheshire and Somerset. She has written books on the history of the late Duke of Westminster’s gardens at Eaton Hall and University of Bristol’s gardens\, as well as contributing to the gardening website Gardenista. In addition Marion is researching the gardens of two large private estates\, creating legacy books for their owners\, as well as leading a wide variety of bespoke garden tours. She is also a Trustee for the Painswick Rococo Garden in Gloucestershire. \nTickets £25 \nDue to the intense interest in this event\, and to make it fair for all\, we are limiting the number of tickets any person can buy to two. If you buy more than two tickets for this event they will be refunded (less the booking fees) and put back up for sale. \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on Monday 26th January and 1 week earlier for benefactors who benefit from priority booking. \n  \nMill Hay Gardens & Lake \n \n  \n \n  \nGardens at The Court in Broadway \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:'Othello' by The Lord Chamberlain's Men - Outdoor Theatre at Abbots Grange
DESCRIPTION:A not to be missed outdoor production of Othello\, in the stunning private grounds of Abbots Grange in the centre of Broadway.\n\n\nJoin The Lord Chamberlain’s Men this summer for Othello\, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it\, as The Lord Chamberlain’s Men – with a history stretching back to Shakespeare’s original company – present this play in the open air\, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes\, music and dance.  \n“I know my price\, I am worth no worse a place.” \nOthello\, the Moor of Venice\, a respected General in the Venetian army\, promotes the young Cassio to be his Lieutenant over Iago\, a soldier in his service. In doing so he unwittingly sparks Iago’s deep-seated hatred into terrifying life and sets in motion a horrendous spiral of vengeance and destruction that sweeps away everyone before it. As Iago weaves his web and seeks his revenge he poisons Othello against Desdemona\, who he has recently and secretly married\, and turns the world upside down until Othello becomes unmoored from reality with devastating consequences.  \n“Put out the light\, and then put out the light.” \nA powerful story of deception\, jealousy and a man that loved not wisely but too well – this stunning and heartbreakingly poignant play is one you won’t want to miss. Bring a chair and a picnic and prepare to be rapt and transported. Book early to avoid missing out! \n“The best authentic Shakespearean experience” Yorkshire Post \n\nTheir productions champion authenticity whilst breathing fresh\, new life into these extraordinary plays. The group will then have the opportunity to share their resulting work online after the editing step is complete. \nParticipants will have the chance to connect with Peter via email and phone in advance of the workshop in order to help them prepare and get the most out of the day\, discussing approaches and possibilities. \nThis workshop is open to anyone age 16 and over\, and especially useful for those working towards their Photography A level. \nWorkshop participants can spend as little or as much time as they like capturing scenes during the day. \nAbout Tutor Peter Martin: \nCanadian born Peter Martin became a professional at 16 when a photo was published on the front page of a Toronto daily newspaper. SUMMARY:How not to be a Starving Artist with Claire Henley
DESCRIPTION:An informal talk about surviving as a professional artist. Freelance for 36 years\, Claire Henley has illustrated such diverse things as margarine tubs and children’s books before becoming a fine artist 15 years ago.  \nTopics will include finding your tribe\, being organised\, showing and selling your work\, galleries\, social media\, multiple income streams\, licensing\, talks and demonstrations and\, finally\, your questions. \nAlthough the emphasis will be on making money from your art\, hobby artists should learn a lot too. Since there’s no magic formula\, Claire will simply be talking about things that have worked for her\, things that didn’t really come off\, and things that were a total disaster!  \nThere will be a Q&A session at the end of the talk. Ticket-holders will be able to submit their questions in advance via email. \nThere will be a pop up shop of Claire’s work\, cards\, etc to enjoy at the end of the event. \nTickets  £18
