SUMMARY:'Othello' by The Lord Chamberlain's Men - Outdoor Theatre at Abbots Grange
DESCRIPTION:A not to be missed outdoor production of Othello\, in the stunning private grounds of Abbots Grange in the centre of Broadway.\n\n\nJoin The Lord Chamberlain’s Men this summer for Othello\, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it\, as The Lord Chamberlain’s Men – with a history stretching back to Shakespeare’s original company – present this play in the open air\, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes\, music and dance.  \n“I know my price\, I am worth no worse a place.” \nOthello\, the Moor of Venice\, a respected General in the Venetian army\, promotes the young Cassio to be his Lieutenant over Iago\, a soldier in his service. In doing so he unwittingly sparks Iago’s deep-seated hatred into terrifying life and sets in motion a horrendous spiral of vengeance and destruction that sweeps away everyone before it. As Iago weaves his web and seeks his revenge he poisons Othello against Desdemona\, who he has recently and secretly married\, and turns the world upside down until Othello becomes unmoored from reality with devastating consequences.  \n“Put out the light\, and then put out the light.” \nA powerful story of deception\, jealousy and a man that loved not wisely but too well – this stunning and heartbreakingly poignant play is one you won’t want to miss. Bring a chair and a picnic and prepare to be rapt and transported. Book early to avoid missing out! \n“The best authentic Shakespearean experience” Yorkshire Post \n\nTheir productions champion authenticity whilst breathing fresh\, new life into these extraordinary plays. SUMMARY:A Tour of 2 Private Gardens: Russell House & Abbots Grange
DESCRIPTION:Broadway’s gardens have been the backdrop for artists\, writers\, actors and musicians for over a century\, and continue this theme today. \nOn this walking tour of two famous private gardens with Marion Mako\, we shall hear about some of the stories behind those who created\, inhabited and visited them\, all looking their finest in June. \nThe morning garden tour will visit: \n\n\n\nRussell House (starting point)\nAbbots Grange\n\nThe tour will start at Russell House which was the home of the Broadway Art Colony in the 1880’s\, and was the setting for Sargent’s Carnation\, Lily\, Lily\, Rose which now hangs in the Tate in London; a beautiful one acre garden including gothic tower\, gazebo\, and ice-house. \nThe tour will then continue on to Abbots Grange\, a short walk away\, the grounds of which used to be connected by a garden gate during the arts colony and Sargent years. \nSat in over 8 acres of parkland grounds\, Abbots Grange is the oldest dwelling in Broadway and one of the oldest domestic/monastic properties in the UK\, built during the early part of the 14th Century. It is considered by the Institute of Archaeology to be one of the most important and best preserved English monastic manor houses\, and has a rich and fascinating history. It was discovered in the 1880’s by designer William Morris and then the American Frank Millet and became a sanctuary for some of the greatest names in European and American culture in the 1880’s. \nMarion Mako is a freelance garden historian and designer who has worked in both the UK and USA. \nHer design work focuses on planting\, taking inspiration from various historical styles\, a subject she also lectures on at The London College of Garden Design. As part of the series of The Historic Gardens of England\, she co-authored two books about the counties of Cheshire and Somerset. She has written books on the history of the late Duke of Westminster’s gardens at Eaton Hall and University of Bristol’s gardens\, as well as contributing to the gardening website Gardenista. In addition Marion is researching the gardens of two large private estates\, creating legacy books for their owners\, as well as leading a wide variety of bespoke garden tours. She is also a Trustee for the Painswick Rococo Garden in Gloucestershire. \nwww.makogardens.co.uk \nTickets £25 \nDue to the intense interest in this event\, and to make it fair for all\, we are limiting the number of tickets any person can buy to two. If you buy more than two tickets for this event they will be refunded (less the booking fees) and put back up for sale. \nPlease use the public car parks in Broadway. \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 17th March. \nRussell House Gardens \n\n \n  \nAbbotts Grange \n
