SUMMARY:Children’s Cycle-delic Spin Painting 3:30pm
DESCRIPTION:A spin art-producing bicycle – a cross between a Rube Goldberg contraption and a Damien Hirst painting factory machine. Workshop participants add poster paint to cartridge paper mounted on a spinning platter\, producing endlessly varied colourful outcomes to take home and keep. \nChildren tend to make better spin-painters as they are fearless in their application of colour and free of self-criticism\, but all ages are welcome! Suitable for anyone aged 3 and up\, younger children will need some assistance from an adult. \nThe workshop will be led (and powered!) by art teacher Daniel Lassam-Jones: “I’ve seen hundreds of paintings created on the Cycle-Delic machine\, and no two are even slightly alike!” \nAll materials will be provided\, and a painting session takes about 10 minutes. Come along at the start of the session and you are welcome to stay for the hour as it’s great fun watching others as well as having your go. \nNo previous spin-painting experience is necessary! \nThis workshop will take place in the small gazebo outside the main marquee on the village  green. \nTickets £8  (5 available each hour throughout the day – see other listings for sessions) \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 17th March. \nThe children’s workshops at the festival are kindly sponsored by Broadway Parish Council. \n \n

SUMMARY:How not to be a Starving Artist with Claire Henley
DESCRIPTION:An informal talk about surviving as a professional artist. Freelance for 36 years\, Claire Henley has illustrated such diverse things as margarine tubs and children’s books before becoming a fine artist 15 years ago.  \nTopics will include finding your tribe\, being organised\, showing and selling your work\, galleries\, social media\, multiple income streams\, licensing\, talks and demonstrations and\, finally\, your questions. \nAlthough the emphasis will be on making money from your art\, hobby artists should learn a lot too. Since there’s no magic formula\, Claire will simply be talking about things that have worked for her\, things that didn’t really come off\, and things that were a total disaster!  \nThere will be a Q&A session at the end of the talk. Ticket-holders will be able to submit their questions in advance via email. \nThere will be a pop up shop of Claire’s work\, cards\, etc to enjoy at the end of the event. \nTickets  £18

SUMMARY:Raku Firing Pottery Day
DESCRIPTION:Always one of our favourite weeks on The Great Pottery Throw Down\, this is your chance to experience the magic of Raku firing and glazing under expert tuition from two of our 2025 art competition finalists/ceramicists\, Richard Ballantyne and Carol Read. \nIn this 1 day Raku workshop you will learn all about and practice 3 different Raku techniques: \n\nNormal glazed Raku\nNaked Raku\nObvara\n\nSmall blank vases and bottles will be supplied ready for the Raku process\, made from clay that will withstand the high temperatures required. \nGlazed Raku \nChoose from a selection of Raku glazes to decorate your pots\, take them out of the kiln whilst still very hot and left to crackle before being put into a bucket of sawdust and sealed. You’ll then have the option to submerge your pots in water to cool quickly. \nNaked Raku \nWe will be heating the pots up in the kiln\, and then removing them at around 700 degrees before burning items such as horse hair\, feathers and sugar onto the pots to create some beautiful silhouette patterns on the white clay. \nObvara Raku \nThe pots are taken from the kiln and plunged into a yeast/flour/water mixture and then immediately into cold water producing an organic-like decorative finish with spotty or volcanic markings. \nAt the end of the day\, you will take home at least 3 of your very own finished Raku pots! \nThis workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience of ceramics. \nThe set up for firing will be outside\, so please come prepared and dressed for all weathers! SUMMARY:'Othello' by The Lord Chamberlain's Men - Outdoor Theatre at Abbots Grange
DESCRIPTION:A not to be missed outdoor production of Othello\, in the stunning private grounds of Abbots Grange in the centre of Broadway.\n\n\nJoin The Lord Chamberlain’s Men this summer for Othello\, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it\, as The Lord Chamberlain’s Men – with a history stretching back to Shakespeare’s original company – present this play in the open air\, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes\, music and dance.  \n“I know my price\, I am worth no worse a place.” \nOthello\, the Moor of Venice\, a respected General in the Venetian army\, promotes the young Cassio to be his Lieutenant over Iago\, a soldier in his service. In doing so he unwittingly sparks Iago’s deep-seated hatred into terrifying life and sets in motion a horrendous spiral of vengeance and destruction that sweeps away everyone before it. As Iago weaves his web and seeks his revenge he poisons Othello against Desdemona\, who he has recently and secretly married\, and turns the world upside down until Othello becomes unmoored from reality with devastating consequences.  \n“Put out the light\, and then put out the light.” \nA powerful story of deception\, jealousy and a man that loved not wisely but too well – this stunning and heartbreakingly poignant play is one you won’t want to miss. SUMMARY:A Tour of 2 Private Broadway Gardens: Court Farm & The Orchard Farm
DESCRIPTION:Broadway’s gardens have been the backdrop for artists\, writers\, actors and musicians for over a century. \nOn this walking tour of two famous private gardens with Marion Mako\, we shall hear about some of the stories behind those who created\, inhabited and visited them\, all looking their finest in June. \nMarion is a garden historian\, planting designer\, garden tour leader and lecturer at The London College of Garden Design. \nThis tour includes Court Farm & Orchard Farm …neighbouring prestigious properties on the Upper High Street in Broadway: \n\nCourt Farm: With many historic and artistic associations this garden may well have influenced the design of nearby Hidcote. Successive generations have all added their horticultural mark to this large garden with its huge herbaceous border and newly planted sundial bed.\nOrchard Farm: From Royal connections to great twentieth century design\, Orchard Farm continues to be sensitively restored by the current owners\, as well as introducing new and exciting design elements\n\nMarion’s design work focuses on planting\, taking inspiration from various historical styles\, a subject she also lectures on. As part of the series of The Historic Gardens of England\, she co-authored two books about the counties of Cheshire and Somerset. She has written books on the history of the late Duke of Westminster’s gardens at Eaton Hall and University of Bristol’s gardens\, as well as contributing to the Gardening website Gardenista. In addition Marion is researching the gardens of two large private estates\, creating legacy books for their owners\, as well as leading a wide variety of bespoke garden tours. She is also a Trustee for the Painswick Rococo Garden in Gloucestershire. \nwww.makogardens.co.uk \nNote there is an identical tour in the afternoon from 3:30-5:30pm \nTickets £25 \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 26th January and 1 week earlier for benefactors of the festival who qualify for priority booking \nPlease note: Due to the intense interest in this event (and to make it fair for all) we are limiting the number of tickets any person can buy to 2.  If you buy more than 2 they will be refunded and put back up for sale. \nView photos from previous garden tours \n \n  \nGarden Historian Marion Mako \n \nImage credit © Britt Willoughby Dyer \n
