SUMMARY:The Julia & Martin Wilson Short Story Competition
DESCRIPTION:In 2020 we launched a new short story prize in addition to our art competition in order to encourage creativity during the lockdown. The prize was generously sponsored and judged by festival benefactors Julia & Martin Wilson. The competition now takes place every other year\, the next one is in 2026. \nEntries need to be a maximum of 2\,000 words with unlimited entries allowed per entrant. No theme to adhere to. \nPrizes: \nMain prize (over 16s): £800\nAges 11-16yrs: £100\nAge 10 and under: £100 \nThe 2026 competition will open for entries on 5th January\, so start working on your entries! \nThe deadline for entries is 6pm on 27th March 2026.  \nPlease do not enter any previously submitted entries as they will not qualify for consideration. \nWinners will be announced the second week of April. \nThere is a fee of £12 per entry for over 16s for the main prize of £800\, but the competition is free to enter for 16 and unders. \nVisit the Short Story Prize web page for further details. An online entry form will appear on the page in January. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:A spin art-producing bicycle – a cross between a Rube Goldberg contraption and a Damien Hirst painting factory machine. Workshop participants add poster paint to cartridge paper mounted on a spinning platter\, producing endlessly varied colourful outcomes to take home and keep. \nChildren tend to make better spin-painters as they are fearless in their application of colour and free of self-criticism\, but all ages are welcome! Suitable for anyone aged 3 and up\, younger children will need some assistance from an adult. \nThe workshop will be led (and powered!) by art teacher Daniel Lassam-Jones: “I’ve seen hundreds of paintings created on the Cycle-Delic machine\, and no two are even slightly alike!” \nAll materials will be provided\, and a painting session takes about 10 minutes. Come along at the start of the session and you are welcome to stay for the hour as it’s great fun watching others as well as having your go. \nNo previous spin-painting experience is necessary! \nThis workshop will take place in the small gazebo outside the main marquee on the village  green. \nTickets £8  (5 available each hour throughout the day – see other listings for sessions) \nTickets go on sale through the website at 10am on 17th March. \nThe children’s workshops at the festival are kindly sponsored by Broadway Parish Council. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning art facilitator and artist\, Libby Esler\, for a vibrant tie-dye session in the big marquee on the village green! \nPerfect for all skill levels\, you’ll explore folding techniques\, colour blending\, and creative design to craft your unique tie-dye masterpiece. \nWith years of teaching and exhibiting experience\, Libby will guide you step-by-step to unleash your creativity. \nNo experience needed—just bring your imagination! \nSuitable for age 5+ (with parent helping). SUMMARY:Children's Cyanotype Printing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to create prints using the power of the sun! \nObjects are arranged onto paper that is sensitive to UV light. The arrangement is then exposed to the sun and washed in water to fix. Children will walk away with a handful of striking blue & white silhouette prints. There will be kits available to purchase at the end of the workshop to continue exploring this interesting print technique at home. \nWhat is a cyanotype? \nCyanotype printing is one of the earliest forms of photography\, discovered in 1842. Cyanotype printing is a camera-less technique using UV sensitive chemistry and UV rays from the sun.  \nWho is running the workshop? \nEmily Rose Parris is a photographer & Arts educator visiting from Kent. \nAll materials are provided\, but feel free to bring small plants or objects you’d like to experiment printing with. \nNo previous experience is needed.  \nBest suited to those age 7+ and parents must stay and attend with their children \nThis workshop will be taking place at the Lifford Hall in Broadway. \nTickets £15  (15 places) \nOur children’s workshops are kindly sponsored by Broadway Parish Council \nPhotographer Emily Rose Parris \n\n \n

SUMMARY:Children’s Cycle-delic Spin Painting 11:30am
DESCRIPTION:A spin art-producing bicycle – a cross between a Rube Goldberg contraption and a Damien Hirst painting factory machine. Workshop participants add poster paint to cartridge paper mounted on a spinning platter\, producing endlessly varied colourful outcomes to take home and keep. \nChildren tend to make better spin-painters as they are fearless in their application of colour and free of self-criticism\, but all ages are welcome! Suitable for anyone aged 3 and up\, younger children will need some assistance from an adult. \nThe workshop will be led (and powered!) by art teacher Daniel Lassam-Jones: “I’ve seen hundreds of paintings created on the Cycle-Delic machine\, and no two are even slightly alike!” \nAll materials will be provided\, and a painting session takes about 10 minutes. DESCRIPTION:From the earliest ballads of Robin Hood\, some pre-dating Chaucer\, Illyria has created a fast-moving\, fun-packed family show. \nWhile good King Richard is away fighting the crusades\, his friend Robert Fitzooth\, under the assumed name of Robin Hood\, resolves to relieve corrupt landowners of their wealth\, to ruin the inept Sheriff of Nottingham and to do all he can to prevent the power-mad Prince John from seizing the throne. \nFeaturing tales of camaraderie\, good against evil\, swashbuckling action and riotous comedy\, this remains one of Illyria’s most popular ever titles. You’ll definitely laugh\, you’ll probably cry – and if you’re not cheering at the archery competition involving the entire audience then you must be dead.
