Malcolm Rogers – Overall Competition Judge

Malcolm was Deputy Director of the National Portrait Gallery in London, and for over twenty years, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He was awarded the CBE for services to the arts in Britain and America. In retirement in Broadway, he continues his active involvement in the arts as a trustee of a number of major museums on both sides of the Atlantic, and is Chairman of Trustees of the Broadway Museum and Art Gallery.


John Noott Art Dealer Judge

John Noott – Overall Competition & Watercolour Prize Judge

Art dealer & festival committee member, John and his family have been successfully art dealing in Broadway for over forty years, and have a keen commercial eye for what is a good picture.
He lives in the house where, in 1885, John Singer Sargeant painted ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose’, and was inspired to celebrate the long tradition of painting and the arts in Broadway by starting the Broadway Arts Festival, now in it’s 10th year, and going from strength to strength.

Stephen Sheppard – Oils Category Judge

Stephen has many years experience in the art and antiques world, firstly by successfully establishing his own fine art business, and then adding to that, by becoming a professional Fine Art and Antiques Auctioneer and Valuer within a 200 year old company of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Fine Art (Chattels) Auctioneers. He is currently the Gallery Manager at Trinity Modern in Broadway.

Emma & Howard Clegg – Category Judges for the recent Fine Arts Graduate prize

The Stratford Gallery first opened its doors just over four years ago in Stratford upon Avon by Howard and Emma Clegg.  This year they are delighted to have relocated to Broadway High Street where the Gallery now occupies three floors of a beautiful Georgian building.  The Gallery represents some of the most talented Artists and Sculptors working in the United Kingdom today, as well as exhibiting the work of the finest Museum Quality Ceramic Artists, both national and international, specialising in Contemporary Japanese Ceramics.
Emma was also the winner of the 3D prize for the 2016 festival competition.
They are thrilled to be sponsoring this prize at the Broadway Arts Festival, a small gesture to enable our next generation of artists to continue with their work.

Liz James has been associated with 19th, 20th & 21st Century art for over 25 years and is the owner of Priory Gallery Broadway, developing contemporary art & sculpture.
Liz runs this bijou gallery with her daughter, Lucy. They have over six exhibitions a year promoting quality artists.

Peter Martin – Photography Category Judge

Canadian born Peter Martin became a professional at 16 when a photo was published on the front page of a Toronto daily newspaper. Over the last 40 years Martin has worked in over 30 countries accumulating well over 10,000 credited assignments as both freelance and staff photographer for various newspapers, news outlets and publications including the Montreal Gazette and the Washington Post.
His varied and diverse portfolio of work includes major sporting and entertainment events, international fashion shoots, Popes, Presidents, Royalty and the fall of the Berlin Wall. His work has been displayed in several solo and group exhibits and in 2008 his photograph of Terry Fox was voted #4 of the Top Ten Historical Photos That Changed Canada. In 2015 he opened his own gallery (Peter Martin Gallery) in Stow-On-The-Wold, in the Cotswolds.

As a Stills Photographer Keith Hamshere has photographed some of biggest names in motion pictures. He has worked alongside legendary actors, directors and cinematographers creating lasting images we’ve all recognized from Star Wars and James Bond to Indiana Jones and Superman. Just some of the names he’s photographed read like a who’s-who of film royalty and stardom including Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Helen Mirren, Halle Berry, Robert Redford Roger Moore, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.

Gary Hershorn – Photography Category Judge

Gary Hershorn is an award-winning Canadian photographer and picture editor. His 40-year career included 29 working for Reuters as Chief Photographer-Canada, Senior Photographer in Washington, Picture Editor-Americas and Global Sports Pictures Editor in New York. Hershorn has photographed 17 Olympic Games, 24 Masters Golf tournaments, 24 Academy Awards, Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cups, World Cups, and major news events. He is a contributing photographer to Getty Images and his latest book, New York Celestial, was published in 2019.
